I bought the Pepwave Surf SOHO based on the recommendation from RouterSecurity.org. My home office had recently been hacked (mostly due to my stupidity) and I wanted to increase the security of my network to something that was business-class w/o needing an IT person to manage it. The SOHO fit the bill almost perfectly. I work in tech but I'm new when it comes to networking protocols. The web interface on the SOHO is very easy to manage and I was able to secure my network on my own quite easily. I hired an IT consultant to double-check my network security and even he was impressed.
There are only a few downsides for me with the SOHO. One, the WAN speed tops out at around 120Mbps. My ISP plan tops out at 100Mbps so it's fine for now but if I were to upgrade to a faster speed in the future, I will need to upgrade the router as well. Two, the hardware is over three years old and feels a tad slow CPU-wise compared to some of the newer routers out there. However, I suppose this is reflected in the price point. Three, it would be nice if the firewall supported wildcards for IP addresses. I have a range of IP addresses assigned to half a dozen IP cams. Currently, if I want to create rules to restrict access to these addresses, I need to do so for each individual IP address. It seems like there could be a more efficient way of doing so.
