This morning, many organizations running CrowdStrike and Windows are encountering the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on both workstations and servers. If your organization is affected, here’s a quick and straightforward fix to get your systems back up and running:
Workaround Steps:
- Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment:
- Check out instructions for booting into safe mode from Microsoft for Windows 10 and 11
- Navigate to the CrowdStrike Directory:
- Open File Explorer and go to the following path: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike
- Delete the Problematic File:
- Locate the file that matches “C-00000291*.sys” in the CrowdStrike directory.
- Delete this file.
- Reboot Your System Normally:
- Restart your computer without Safe Mode.
- Your system should now boot up without encountering the BSOD.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the BSOD issue and restore normal operations. For further assistance, please contact CrowdStrike support or your IT department.
Stay tuned for updates on this issue as more information becomes available.
