Semtech (formerly Sierra Wireless) has released an important Technical Bulletin regarding a critical issue affecting AirLink® MG90 5G routers when upgrading to MGOS 4.4.3 via AM/AMM. If you are managing or operating an MG90 5G router, please review the following details to avoid potential disruptions or unexpected data charges.
What’s Happening?
Semtech has identified a problem when upgrading certain MG90 routers to MGOS 4.4.3 using AirLink Mobility Manager (AMM) or AirLink Manager (AM). Under certain circumstances, the upgrade process may fail. Routers that experience this issue may repeatedly attempt to re-download the MGOS 4.4.3 package, which can result in excessive data charges on your network.
Affected Devices
Impacted:
- AirLink® MG90 5G routers upgrading to MGOS 4.4.3 via AM/AMM
Not Impacted:
- MG90 LTE, LTE-A, and LTE-A Pro routers
- MG90 5G routers upgraded via USB stick
How to Check If You’re Affected (And What to Do Next)
If you have already attempted an upgrade to MGOS 4.4.3 via AM/AMM on your MG90 5G router and the upgrade failed to complete, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Admin -> Operations Page
- Locate the operation corresponding to this upgrade
- Click “Cancel”
- Go to the Admin -> Software -> Distribution Page
- Ensure the Target Version matches the Current Version for the MG90 5G
- If the versions do not match:
- Select the MG90 5G router
- Click “Upgrade Software”
- Choose the MGOS version that matches the current MGOS version from the pulldown menu
Semtech’s Recommended Action
- Do NOT attempt to upgrade MG90 5G routers to MGOS 4.4.3 via AM/AMM until a fix is released.
- Upgrading MG90 5G routers to MGOS 4.4.3 via a USB stick is permitted and safe.
- MG90 LTE, LTE-A, and LTE-A Pro routers are not impacted and may upgrade to MGOS 4.4.3 without issue.
