This router features two embedded modems and you will need SIM cards with active service from a compatible provider to use them. The HD2 has standard 2FF SIM slots - if you plan to use a micro or nano SIM, you'll need a SIM adapter.

The HD2 Dome is the perfect fit for providing SpeedFusion SD-WAN to vehicular deployments. It combines the bandwidth from two cellular links for unbreakable cellular connectivity. This dual LTE mobile router has embedded Cat 6 LTE Advanced and Firstnet-ready Cat 12 LTE Advanced Pro cellular modems for use with LTE provides around the world. The M35 screw bottom makes the device easy to secure onto any rooftop. The HD2 Dome installs with just single cable, keeping your deployment clean and simple. In addition, the HD2 houses the radio and the cellular antennas within the same enclosure, ensuring minimal cable loss, and maximum signal quality. By adding the optional SIM Injector, the HD2 Dome becomes that much more convenient to use. Firstly, the router will be able to support an additional 8 SIM cards, upping the total number of carriers on standby to 12. More importantly the SIM Injector can be located somewhere convenient, so you can change your SIM cards without leaving the driver’s seat.

  • Bonding: SpeedFusion VPN Bonding. NOTE: Many factors influence the real-world throughput you'll see from bonded connections, including latency, connection type, connection speeds, traffic type, and reliability on both sides of the SpeedFusion tunnel. Cellular users should note that bonded cellular connections suffer from "flow control" of TCP traffic at the carrier level, and 5Gstore cannot guarantee that bonding multiple cellular connections will result in faster speeds (however, the other benefits of SpeedFusion remain, such as unbreakable VPN, session persistence, and 100% up-time as long as you have 1 healthy WAN).

The device was exceedingly simple to set up and begin using. After installing the SIM card I had it up and running in just a few minutes. I now have it mounted on the top of the mast on my boat and it does a great job of receiving the cell signals and sending them to my wifi access point via the ethernet cable I ran up the mast. The PoE capability also meant I didn't have to run a separate power wire which is a great benefit. The built-in configuration app on the router is also simple to use and effective. All in all a great package. Does exactly what I want it to do.

Is this router plug and play as far as VPN and WiFi? Also, can the MAC address be cloned on the fly?

The Surf SOHO supports SpeedFusion, L2TP, and Open VPN. It also has Wi-Fi as WAN and standard Wi-Fi broadcast features. The router has a default SSID broadcasting and ready to use out of the box.

The MAC address can be manually changed for the physical WAN ports only on Peplink devices.
