It is important to use the correct-sized SIM in your router, gateway, hotspot, or phone. A SIM that is too small will not fit properly to make the necessary connection to the device and may even get stuck in the slot, and a SIM that is too large will simply not fit.
SIM cards come in three sizes:
SIMs are often available on "punchout" cards which allow you to simply choose the size you need and punch it out accordingly. If you have an existing SIM you are wanting to use in a new device and it is too small (e.g. your SIM is Nano and your router requires a Standard SIM), you can use an adapter to bring it up to the larger size.
Most newer phones utilize the smallest size, 4FF, while most routers and gateways utilize the larger 2FF size. This is not always the case, however - make sure to check the specs of your device before inserting your SIM card!
